Grizzl-E Mini Connect vs Classic Connect: Which One Fits a No-Garage Setup?

Two Made in Canada chargers from the same company, at the same 40 A maximum, for different situations. Here’s how the portable Mini Connect and the wall-mounted Classic Connect compare on voltage, plugs, mounting, price and ratings, and which one suits a condo stall, a rental or charging in more than one place. Not electrical advice; your outlet and circuit decide what either charger can do.

Outlet first, charger second. Never use a household extension cord for EV charging, and never run a cord from a balcony, window, or patio door to the parking stall. If the receptacle is in the wrong place or the wrong type, the fix is a new receptacle installed by a licensed electrician. More: extension-cord safety.

Both chargers come from the same Canadian maker, both are listed as Made in Canada, and both top out at 40 A (9.6 kW). The real difference is how you’ll use them: the Mini Connect is built to travel between outlets and can run on 120 V or 240 V, while the Classic Connect is a 240 V wall unit with a NEMA 14-50 plug that you can still unplug and take with you when you move. Specs below come from the current Amazon.ca listings.

Outlet and amp caveats

  • Neither charger gives 40 A unless the circuit allows it. Set about 80% of the breaker (Canadian Electrical Code Rule 86-302): 40 A on 50 A, 32 A on 40 A, 24 A on 30 A.
  • Level 1 on the Mini is still slow: a standard 15 A receptacle supports about 12 A. Use a dedicated circuit, not a shared outlet: dedicated Level 1.
  • Carrying adapters doesn’t make any outlet acceptable. Only plug into receptacles the owner or board has approved for EV charging.
  • A block-heater outlet or a timed parking-lot outlet is not an EV circuit. Ask before plugging in.
  • New receptacles and circuits need a licensed electrician and the permit your province requires.

Caveats

  • Prices, ratings and specs are from Amazon.ca listings checked October 14, 2026. Sale prices can end without notice.
  • The Mini has fewer and lower ratings than the Classic. Read recent reviews for your use case before buying.
  • Adapter sets and bracket details can change between production runs. Check what’s in the box on the listing.
  • Charging speed depends on your car’s onboard charger, the battery temperature and the circuit, not just the charger.

FAQ

Is the Grizzl-E Mini Connect or Classic Connect faster?

Both max out at 40 A (9.6 kW) on a 50 A circuit. On the same circuit and car, they charge at the same speed.

Can the Grizzl-E Classic Connect charge on a regular 120 V outlet?

No. The Classic Connect is a 240 V Level 2 charger with a NEMA 14-50 plug. The Mini Connect detects 120 V or 240 V and can work as Level 1 with the right adapter.

Are both Grizzl-E chargers made in Canada?

Both Amazon.ca listings say Made in Canada, and the Classic Connect lists Canada as the country of origin. Check the listing before you buy, as product details can change.

Can I take a Grizzl-E Classic Connect with me when I move?

Yes, if it’s the plug-in version. It plugs into a NEMA 14-50 receptacle and lifts off its wall bracket. The receptacle usually stays with the building.

Which Grizzl-E is better for an outdoor parking stall?

Both have outdoor-rated enclosures. The Classic suits a fixed outlet at your own stall; the Mini suits people who move it between outlets or start on 120 V.

Do the Grizzl-E chargers work with a Tesla?

The versions listed here use a J1772 connector, so a Tesla needs a certified J1772-to-NACS adapter. Grizzl-E also sells NACS-connector versions.
